Cole Palmer Says Chelsea Players Love Under-Pressure Manager Mauricio Pochettino and Must Fight for Him

The 2016-17 season was Chelsea's 103rd competitive season and 28th consecutive season in the top flight of English football.

Chelsea's squad for the 2016-17 season was as follows:

  • Goalkeepers: Thibaut Courtois, Asmir Begovic, Eduardo
  • Defenders: Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Marcos Alonso, Victor Moses, Nathaniel Chalobah, Ola Aina
  • Midfielders: N'Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, Willian, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Ruben Loftus-Cheek
  • Forwards: Diego Costa, Michy Batshuayi, Pedro

Chelsea began the season by winning the FA Community Shield, defeating Arsenal 2-1 at Wembley Stadium. However, they then lost their opening Premier League match of the season 2-0 away to Manchester City. Chelsea's form improved after this, and they went on to win their next five league matches, including a 3-0 victory over champions Leicester City. However, they then suffered a setback by losing 3-1 away to Liverpool. Chelsea's form continued to be inconsistent throughout the season, and they eventually finished 10th in the Premier League table. They also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they lost 2-1 to Arsenal.

Chelsea's poor form led to increased pressure on manager Antonio Conte, who was eventually sacked in December 2017. He was replaced by former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino. Under Pochettino, Chelsea's form improved, and they went on to win the FA Cup in 2018. They also finished third in the Premier League table, qualifying for the Champions League for the following season.
